The Group

It all begins with the extraordinary talent of Bortolo Bertolaso. An inventor and pioneer in the wine industry, he establishes his company near Verona in Zimella in 1880. He introduces various technological innovations, notably the shoulder sulfur machine, which leads to his recognition with the Order of Merit for Labour in 1907.

It’s 1919 when Officine Meccaniche Padovan, a company specializing in wine equipment, is founded.

A series of innovations – the Victoria filter patent and the launch of the first Thermosteril – lead the way to incorporating Officine Meccaniche Padovan into AMF, American Machinery Foundry. Shortly after comes the presentation of the first Taylo Rotary drum vacuum filter.

In 1957, Giacomo Della Toffola, an employee at the renowned Monti Spinning Mill, embarks on his carpentry venture as a secondary occupation. The following year, he founds Della Toffola in Trevignano, near Treviso.

Transitioning from manual machines to semi-automatic solutions, the company pioneers its first fully automatic capping machines in the 1960s. Bertolaso gains significant recognition at the 1963 SIMEI exhibition with its “Super Gloria” fully automatic bottle-capping engine.

Starting in the early 1970s, the company designs its first stainless steel crushers and vertical presses. Over the coming years, Giacomo’s sons become part of the company and steer Della Toffola toward becoming one of the industry’s foremost global players.

Growth leads to diversification, with Bertolaso broadening its scope to the design and production of filling machines, including light depression systems and isobaric systems for sparkling wines and spumante.

TMCI Group becomes a part of the registered capital and acquires Chemtech International Ltd. They also introduce their first Greenfilter and the initial cross-flow filter, Nitor.

Bertolaso embraces international opportunities through acquisitions and mergers, establishing a presence in France, Spain, Germany, the Americas, and Australia. By 1994, Bertolaso extends its reach to China, promoting the excellence of Italian craftsmanship. In just a few years, exports constitute more than 80% of the brand’s total production.

Around the 1990s, the company begins acquiring complementary Italian businesses and innovating with patented technologies. Della Toffola’s transformed into a genuinely international group, establishing offices in France, Spain, Argentina, Chile, the USA, Mexico, and Australia. In 1996, Sirio Aliberti joins the Group.

The world’s largest 60T/h Kristalstop is produced, and a new, larger, more modern, and efficient headquarters opens. The company patents Dynamos, a high solids crossflow filter featuring ceramic discs, and acquires the Velo Brand. Synergo joins the registered capital and eventually gains full company ownership. Impiantinox SRL and its EasyBräu brand is bought. In 2019 TMCI Padovan celebrates 100 years.

Della Toffola’s expansion continus as it acquirs OMB, AVE, Gimar, Priamo, and Z-Italia. A new office opens in Mexico.

Nearly 150 years since its inception, Bertolaso remains committed to innovation. This dedication is exemplified by its portfolio of over 30 patented inventions and its recognition at international trade exhibitions.

A significant milestone occurs as Investindustrial, one of Europe’s prominent independent investment groups, becomes a shareholder in the company.

The company acquired SAP Italia S.r.l. and built a new, larger, and more advanced headquarters.

Bertolaso becomes a part of the Della Toffola Group.

The Group expands and enhances its portfolio by incorporating Frilli, Bertolaso, Permeare, and APE Impianti, and launching its strategic ESG development plan. Progema Engineering and Mar.Co. Srl join the Group.

DT Holding, the project started by Investindustrial that includes, among others, the Della Toffola Group and Bertolaso, now takes on a new name – Omnia Technologies. At the heart of the Group’s mission is the strategy of becoming the partner for integrated solutions for the wine and beverage sector, based on the values of technology, sustainability and service.
