Pursuing excellence: quality at the heart of tradition and innovation at Hofstätter Estate

In the heart of Tramin, in the enchanting region of Südtirol, Tenuta Joseph Hofstätter stands as a beacon of winemaking tradition and innovation. For over five generations, this prestigious winery has been crafting exceptional wines that capture the essence of their unique alpine terroir.

At Hofstätter, tradition is not a static concept—it evolves with a forward-thinking approach, embracing technologies that elevate quality while preserving the soul of each varietal. Guided by Markus Heinel, Cellar Master, the winery’s dedication to excellence and low-intervention winemaking has driven them to seek the most suitable crossflow filtration solution as precise and respectful as their vineyard work.

As Heinel explains: “The preservation of the delicate alpine freshness of our white wines is very important for us. The density of our Gewürztraminer or the tension of a Sauvignon Blanc, achieved by meticulous work in the steep vineyards, have to be completely preserved. Barrel aged Pinot Nero with delicate fragrance and sensitive colour stability, but high in polyphenols are a challenge for every crossflow filtration system.”

The search for a partner capable of delivering gentle crossflow filtration technology without compromising the integrity of their wines led them to Permeare. More than just a supplier, Permeare I part of Omnia Technologies became a trusted partner, offering delicate, efficient, and sustainable technology perfectly aligned with Hofstätter’s values, while leveraging the strength of an international group. “With PermaWine we are able to meet all these goals and we are happy and convinced it is the best possible solution for us”, confirms Heinel.

Sustainability is at the core of this partnership. PermaWine ensures high energy efficiency with a consumption of just 0.09 kW/h per hectoliter of filtered wine, minimizing environmental impact. Additionally, process optimization allows for an extremely low water usage, ranging between 2.2 and 2.8 liters of H₂O per hectoliter of wine, ensuring significant water savings.

This is the story of how a commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, and technological excellence came together to protect the vibrant freshness of Gewürztraminer, the tension of Sauvignon Blanc, and the refined elegance of Pinot Nero, glass after glass.
